As an athlete who has had two ACL surgeries, I am extremely particular and critical of who I train with and take advice from. Before I tore my ACL and meniscus, I was an average athlete training with various strength and conditioning coaches that may have been helping my strength and conditioning, but were not taking into account what my personal body may need to keep from getting hurt. After I tore my ACL, I had the privilege of meeting and training with Gambitta, who was able to fill me in on why the ACL tore, and what areas I need to target and strengthen to prevent future issues. He created a health and fitness plan especially tailored for my body. After training with Gambitta, I came back to the sport healthier, better, and stronger than ever. My knees and the muscles around them were stronger than they ever were, but I also was stronger. I went to him to become stronger after my injury and prevent future injury, which he did, but I came out a super athlete making the empire state lacrosse team the very day my doctor released me to play, becoming 1st team All American in both sports I play, and getting recruited from various colleges of all different divisions in both soccer and lacrosse. I am 100% confident that there is no way this would have been possible if it had not been for him training me.
I went on to the University of Vermont, and after working with their coaches and trainers for a week, our coach posted a list of fitness tests we were going to be given within the week to evaluate us. There was one in particular that seemed impossible. I called Gambitta right away, and although I was in a different state and he was not obligated to help me- he was happy to help (as he always was). I told him the test I was worried about and he gave me a different run to do that day to prepare me for it. On the day that the test was given I was the only athlete on the team of 35 girls that was able to finish and pass the challenge.
After realizing UVM was not the right place for me, I played at LeMoyne, another Division I lacrosse program. During break, we were given a list of exercises that we had to complete, and we had to send our times to our coaches. Because they were sprints and had to be a specific distance most people did theirs on the track. Gambitta had me do mine on the grass because running on the track was not only not as good for your body but also completely irrelevant since we do not play lacrosse on the track. He measured out all the distances on the grass, where it was harder and my times were slower than my teammates, but when we went back to school and practiced together I blew all my teammates out of the water with my times- and not just by seconds but by tens of seconds. Because they had been doing everything on the track, they were slower when we had to do everything on the grass, and I was already used to it and ahead of the game. These are just a few examples to show the difference between a strong athlete, and an athlete with an incredibly knowledgeable, and dedicated trainer.
Gambitta is THE only one who I have ever felt 100% confident in. He doesn't just give me a list of exercise's he wants me to complete that he gives to everyone else too. Instead, he makes everything I have ever done specific to me as an individual athlete, taking into account the sport I am training for, the position I play in the sport, and my own body. He would never settle when we reached the highest level, instead he would continually raise me to levels that I never thought possible. His knowledge, hard work, and dedication is unlike anyone I have ever seen. He is always learning and staying updated on new techniques, but because of his knowledge of the human body he is smart enough to know the difference between a workout "fad" and a successful exercise.
Gambitta was never just a trainer, he was more of a life coach. He trained my body as well as my mind. He taught me about mental toughness- lessons that are important on the field, but are equally important off the field as well. He taught me how to work hard, and how to get to the top- just to work even harder. He is inspiring to work with, and can instill a fire inside anyone, and then train that fire to burn brighter and stronger than ever. I have never felt more truthful in anything I have ever proclaimed when I say- Gambitta is the absolute best there is out there. But I urge you to see for yourself, and be ready for the awe and amazement that will come after just one day of working with him- oh and the sore muscles too.
